Our Story

Clemente Cittoni came to Napa in 1961, a young man with a strong work ethic and a dream. He began his culinary journey at the historic Depot Restaurant, where he learned to cook under the wing of Teresa Tamburelli. What started with washing dishes quickly turned into a lifelong passion for food, family, and tradition.

By 1974, Clemente had become co-owner of the Depot and spent the next four decades feeding generations of locals with his signature malfatti and warm hospitality.

Today, you can still find Clemente in the kitchen along with his daughter Joanne, grandson Joseph, and their loyal team who continue the legacy at Clementes Authentic Italian. Every dish we serve is a love letter to the past — handmade, heartfelt, and rooted in Napa’s rich Italian history.

What’s a Malfatti?

Born by happy accident at Napa’s old Depot Restaurant, malfatti means “mistake” in Italian but it quickly became a local favorite. Made from the inside of a ravioli, these fluffy hand rolled dumplings are smothered in our 16-hour Depot sauce and topped with parmigiano cheese. It’s our signature dish and a true taste of Napa history.
